Favourite Remedies For Cold & Flu

The symptoms that accompany cold and flu infection are the manifestations of a healthy, functioning immune system battling a pathogenic invader. Yes, it's uncomfortable: you're sick. Your body is at war. You want to aid it to function fully to recover quickly.

The coughing, sneezing, congestion, fever, and runny nose is the primary defence of your immune system as it tries to rid the body of the infecting bacteria or virus. I recommend that you aid the natural function of the immune system rather than trying to suppress it. The following remedies will help your immune system function optimally, as well as soothing the symptoms.

A flu infection is usually more severe and longer-lasting than a cold. A flu infection can develop into pneumonia. Add to the common cold symptoms: fever, headache, aching muscles and joints, sinusitis, ear infection, and digestive pain and malfunction.

Just like cold viruses, flu viruses enter your body through the mucous membranes of the nose, eyes, or mouth and can be caused by any one of thousands of different viruses.
  • As soon as I notice the first hint of a symptom, I start taking immediate action. This is the key to my efficient treatment of a cold or flu.
  • The second key is in the choosing of efficacious remedies that assist the immune system in fighting the infection so that health can be restored as soon as possible.
  • Above all, I practice the 13 Basic Health Habits consistently. I hydrate, nourish, rest, and replenish my health. This keeps my immune system in good working order, primed to handle any invading micro-organisms intent on harm.
  • A healthy body is a hostile environment for pathogens.

NATURAL REMEDIES
Pure, organic, and potent, this oregano oil with vitamin A is antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal.

Oregano oil has an extremely strong flavour and should be diluted in another pure oil like extra virgin olive oil if applying directly to the skin.

I recommend using the stopper that comes with the oil and shooting a full stopper-full of oil into the back of the throat, followed by water. I do not recommend putting the oil into water, you will lose half the precious oil as it coats the inside of the glass.

Delivers the daily maximum dose of plant sterols, a broad-spectrum antioxidant, and fruit and essential fatty acids to increase the bioavailability.

Recommended for colds, flu, and allergies.

Immuno-care will also reduce inflammation, unhealthy cholesterol, and is recommended for Fibromyalgia and prostate enlargement.

Bolster your body’s natural defences with a blend of echinacea, vitamin C, and zinc.

Echinacea Complete Care contains echinacea, for unbeatable effectiveness in helping your body to stay healthy naturally. Vitamin C, an antioxidant, and zinc, an essential mineral, enhance this powerful blend.

Made with hypertonic 100% natural-source seawater, with a higher salinity, ready-to-use hydraSense® Congestion Relief cleanses the nose and helps relieve nasal congestion. It also evacuates mucus-trapped infectious agents and allergens to help protect against infection.

BROTH

Organic, free-range chicken broth, or vegetable broth infused with fresh slices of garlic, fresh ginger, and chili pepper flakes or cayenne pepper is a favourite.

I also increase my fluid intake by adding hot, fresh lemon or lime juice, raw honey, cayenne, and unpasteurized apple cider vinegar remedial drinks that soothe symptoms rather than suppress them and aid the natural functions of the immune system that are working to disarm and to free you from the ill affects of the invading virus.

SLEEP

It is important to get lots of sleep, it is the only time your body heals itself. A quality sleep involves cycling through all five stages of sleep, 3-5 times a night, with the necessary alpha brain wave activity.

HOMEMADE

Elderberries:
  • are very high in vitamin A

Vitamin D, from UVB exposure (please visit HEALTH COACH Basic Health Habit No. 8: Sunlight for more information) is the best protection against melanoma. UVB ultraviolet rays are strongest at noon.

There are natural ways to protect yourself from sunburn that you can use instead of toxic sunscreens. Two non-toxic ingredients that scatter both UVB and the more damaging UVA rays are the natural minerals titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. The most obvious and safest option is to put on a long sleeved shirt, pants and a hat once you’ve reached your limit of sun exposure (you can tell you’ve had enough right when your skin turns the lightest shade of pink).

Don't forget to hydrate while out in the sun.

DIY Natural SPF Oil Blend

50ml Red Raspberry Seed Oil
25ml Rice Bran Oil
4ml Vitamin E Oil
10 drops Lavender Oil

Blend oils together. This mixture will give you an overall SPF of around 30.

Red raspberry seed oil is anti-inflammatory, nourishing, and conditions weary skin. It is the high fatty acid content which protects the skin from both UVA and UVB rays. Rice bran oil has a low SPF of 4 however, it is also packed full of antioxidants which protect against free radical damage to slow down the aging process. Vitamin E is absorbed deep in the skin where it helps protect against UV damage; it also helps prevent age spots and plays an important role in the prevention of skin cancer due to its powerful antioxidant properties. Lavender oil is also a great anti-inflammatory agent and helps repair sun damaged skin.
